Local mayors and community leaders also share their insights on what these projects mean for their cities—highlighting not only the progress underway, but the shared commitment to building vibrant, resilient communities for the future.

1. Banana Ball at Riverwalk Stadium

The Savannah Bananas are bringing their high-energy, entertainment-driven Banana Ball to Montgomery for two nights (March 21-22) of packed stands and nonstop fun. The Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery will host the Firefghters as they compete against the Indianapolis Clowns. Expect a baseball experience unlike anything else—fast-paced rules, dancing players and a fan-first atmosphere.

2. YMCA Opens on ASU Campus

A brand-new YMCA is coming to Alabama State University, creating a major wellness hub for students, families and the West Montgomery community. The facility will expand access to fitness, youth programs and community health resources.

3. Owens Corning Breaks Ground in Prattville

Owens Corning is investing in a major new asphalt shingle plant—the largest initial capital investment in Prattville’s history. The project will create nearly 100 skilled jobs and deepen the city’s manufacturing presence.

4. Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Annex Opens at Riverwalk

A new annex of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will open inside Riverwalk Stadium, honoring Black baseball history and its legacy in the South. Visitors can explore exhibits that celebrate legendary players and deepen Montgomery’s cultural footprint.

5. Elevation’s New Legacy Site to Open

Construction around Elevation will continue as they prepare to open Montgomery Square, their newest Legacy Site, in February 2026. The new site will detail the Montgomery decade that changed the world from 1955 to 1965.

6. New Community Center in Elmore

The Town of Elmore is breaking ground on a new community center that will serve as a hub for programs, gatherings and local events. The facility strengthens services for a rapidly growing part of Elmore County.

7. Meta’s $1.5B AI Data Center Goes Live

Meta’s massive, 1.3-million-square-foot AI data center is scheduled to launch operations in late 2026. The facility brings 100 high-tech jobs, runs entirely on renewable energy and positions Montgomery as a rising hub for artificial intelligence innovation.

8. Fairview Farmers Market To Be Renovated

Fairview’s Farmers Market reopens in upgraded style with expanded stalls, new cooler space, a community kitchen and a covered pavilion. It will serve as West Montgomery’s fresh-food anchor and a new gathering place for local vendors and families.

9. New Genesis Dealership Opens

Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, is opening a modern dealership in Montgomery by early 2026. The location will offer an elevated customer experience and strengthen the region’s auto industry footprint.

10. DYB Regional World Series Returns to Lagoon Park

Lagoon Park again hosts the DYB Regional World Series, attracting 750+ families and generating millions in local economic impact. The event showcases Montgomery’s top-tier facilities and reputation in youth sports tourism.

11. River Town Center

Expands in Wetumpka Following Tractor Supply Co.’s opening, River Town Center enters a major growth year with Guthrie’s, The GOAT Bar & Grill, Next Gen Fun Park, Baskin-Robbins and more on the way. By late 2026, the development will be fully open and thriving.

12. Sun Belt Baseball Championship at Riverwalk

Riverwalk Stadium welcomes the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship for the second year of its five-year run. Downtown businesses benefit from packed hotels, restaurants and fan energy all week long.

13. Baumhower’s Victory Grille Opens in Millbrook

The beloved Alabama sports-bar chain is opening at The Marketplace at 17 Springs, bringing award-winning wings and 70+ TVs to the growing recreation district. The restaurant will be a major draw for families, sports fans and event goers.

14. City Employee Raises Across Montgomery

Montgomery city employees will receive merit increases under the FY26 budget. The initiative reflects the city’s commitment to investing in the workforce that keeps essential services running.

19. New Convention Center Plans

The Montgomery City Council voted to acquire a vacant downtown property on Molton Street—formerly home to the Montgomery Advertiser buildings—for $5.5 million, opening the door to a potential new arena-style Convention Center.

20. World-Class Base Camp for 2026 FIFA World Cup Teams

Two of Montgomery’s premier athletic venues—the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex and Alabama State University’s athletic facilities—meet and exceed FIFA’s standards for elite training. These sites offer tournament-quality fields, professional locker rooms and are surrounded by full-service accommodations.

21. Rural King Opens in Prattville

Rural King, America’s Farm and Home Store, is opening an 80,000-square-foot location in midtown Prattville. The family-focused retailer will offer thousands of products, free popcorn and strong community partnerships.

22. $2.25M in Public Safety Grants Implemented

State and federal grants are funding major upgrades in law enforcement capacity and crisis response services. The investment includes hiring new deputies and launching programs targeting gun violence and behavioral health challenges.

23. Funding for Sheriff’s Office Upgrades

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will receive $1,249,480 from the U.S. Department of Justice’s COPS Hiring Program to hire 10 additional deputies. The funding will enhance patrol coverage, increase community policing and improve visibility in both rural and urban areas. The hiring will help ensure the Real Time Crime Center and technology modernization projects are fully supported by personnel.

24. County Park & Community Center Improvements

Residents can enjoy upgraded parks and centers across Montgomery County, including new walking trails, sidewalks, a rebuilt Flatwood Community Center and a new storm shelter. These improvements enhance recreation access and family-friendly amenities.

25. Pike Road High School Under Construction

Construction is underway on the new Pike Road High School, a 200,000-square-foot campus set on 73 acres. The facility will feature more than 55 classrooms, a career tech center with STEM and science labs and two gymnasiums. The project is expected to be complete in either late 2026 or early 2027.

26. Montgomery Zoo & Planetarium Upgrades

Plans include the grand opening of a new gift shop and admissions complex designed to enhance the guest experience. Several exhibits will also be transformed, with the former bear exhibit becoming a Red Wolf habitat and Parakeet Cove reimagined as Tortoise Trek.
