Breaking the Mold: Central Alabama Community College

Degree: Stand-Alone Practical Nursing Program

How It\’s Unique

It’s fast. This nursing program allows students who want to become a nurse to do so in 12 months. The students can also participate in the student nurse apprenticeship program during the last two semesters of the program.

What It\’s Worth

“This program allows students interested in a nursing degree to complete the practical nursing certificate in one year and begin working in a competitive healthcare environment,” said Jennifer Steele, Director of Health Sciences for CACC. “Once the student is an LPN, they can work while they continue pursuing their ADN degree, which they can complete in two semesters.\”

Students Speak

“I chose the PN program because so many people recommended I try the shorter nursing degree to see if I would like being a nurse,” said Elboni Sanders.
