Proudly serving patients across the River Region for more than 40 years, the Montgomery Cancer Center team is dedicated to a common mission of delivering advanced cancer care close to home. That same 40-year mission remains true today and every day as we focus on bringing the latest innovations in cancer treatment to our community.
Our dedicated and highly trained Advanced Oncology Program ensures our patients have a dedicated support team working through a multifaceted approach to help them receive the best care and treatments available. These efforts are led by Board-Certified Medical Oncologist, Dr. Rehan Sarmad, and Board-Certified Oncology Pharmacy Manager, Dr. Nicole Hansen.
Leading with expertise and caring with compassion, Sarmad and Hansen are helping patients through challenging times with more options than ever before. One of these advancements is immunotherapy, a treatment that empowers the body’s own immune system to fight cancer. Immunotherapies like CAR T-cell therapy and bispecific antibodies continue to show promising results for cancers that have historically been more difficult to treat.
“In recent years, cancer care has progressed rapidly, offering patients and families more treatment and care options. Breakthrough treatments, smarter technologies, and more flexible ways to receive care are transforming the patient’s experience–no matter where someone lives,” said Hansen.
“For years, these treatments have been limited to academic medical centers and required extensive travel and lifestyle limitations to receive therapies. Many of these newer therapies are now available in community cancer centers like ours. At Montgomery Cancer Center, we have successfully treated patients with myeloma, lymphoma, and small-cell lung cancers with bispecific antibodies,” continued Dr.Rehan Sarmad.
The availability of these treatment options provides results that make all the difference for our patients and their families.
“When our mother was first told she might need to be treated out of town with a bispecific treatment, she immediately refused. Once the therapy became available in Montgomery, Dr. Sarmad arranged for our mother to receive the bispecific treatment here so she could come home each night and have family nearby. Being able to stay at home has made a huge difference in her care. She’s far more comfortable, our family can stay with her and attend appointments easily, and overall, she has done much better. The staff at Montgomery Cancer have been wonderful—professional, compassionate and very supportive. We are so grateful to Dr. Sarmad and the Montgomery Cancer team for making these treatments possible at our clinic, close to home.”-Missy Lawrence; Daughter ofMontgomery Cancer Center Patient
Together, these advancements are shaping a future where cancer care is more personalized, more effective and more convenient, offering patients and their families greater access, greater comfort and greater hope.
