Alabama Community College System achieves perfect state audit

MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Community College System achieved another perfect audit by the Alabama State Auditor\’s Office. State Auditor Andrew Sorrell presented Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker with a special certificate on Thursday, July 27, to recognize this accomplishment.

During the audit, Tammie Thompson, the System\’s Office Manager for Financial Services, and Laurie Rhoads, the System\’s Asset Coordinator, worked for weeks across the System to successfully account for more than 1,500 items, valued at more than $9.9 million. The state audit happens at least once every two years.

Sorrell said a perfect audit is rare for an agency as large as the Alabama Community College System, but not unusual for the System, which has obtained a perfect audit for the last several years.

\”We have about $1.3 billion in statewide inventory with 288,000 inventory items in which we are accountable to the taxpayers of this state. This is a huge task, but thanks to the leadership of Chancellor Baker, the building manager, and all the faculty and staff, they were able to achieve a perfect audit,\” Sorrell said.

Sensitive technology items and items valued at $500 or more – and are not consumable – are included in the audit.


Alabama’s community and technical colleges were unified as one system May 3, 1963, when legislators laid the groundwork for a unified system of institutions to focus on accessible training in “arts and sciences and in useful skills and trades” for current and future labor needs. Sixty years have passed, but that important cause remains the singular purpose of the Alabama Community College System (ACCS).
