The Alabama State University Foundation (ASUF) and Unite, Inc. have entered into a partnership to establish the Unite HBCU Civil Discourse and Freedom Institute Fund, a $1.4 million initiative designed to support faculty excellence, research, and student success within Alabama State University’s College of Education.
The initiative is part of the broader Unite HBCU Civil Discourse and Freedom Institute, a national effort to strengthen civil discourse, democratic engagement, and constructive dialogue across Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Under the agreement, Unite, Inc. will invest $1.2 million over four years. This investment will provide:
- $800,000 to establish the Unite Endowed Professor and Smith & Brooks Endowed Professor positions;
- $200,000 for graduate assistantships; and
- $200,000 to support research, travel, programming, and other scholarly activities.
The Alabama State University Foundation will contribute $200,000 to the endowed account and provide annual faculty stipends, while the College of Education will provide ongoing support for research and graduate assistantships beginning in 2029.
“This partnership represents a significant investment in academic excellence and the future of civil discourse across the HBCU community,” said Col. (Ret.) Gregory L. Clark, vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the Alabama State University Foundation. “Together, we are creating opportunities that will enhance teaching, research, and student development for years to come.”
The fund will be administered by the Alabama State University Foundation, which will provide stewardship and financial oversight for the initiative.
