The Council on Substance Abuse endorsed by the Alabama Department of Mental Health

The Council on Substance Abuse (COSA) is observing  Mental Health Awareness Month. Established in 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month is observed  annually in May to increase awareness about the vital role mental health plays in our overall health and  well-being and provide resources and information to support individuals and communities who may need  mental health support. 

Using this year’s theme, “Supportive families, communities, and resources can help youth build strong  foundations for lifelong well-being,” COSA is inviting all middle and high school students and athletes to  join us during a FREE 30-minute virtual ZOOM presentation, to promote mental health wellness among  youth. Below are two event details: 

Friday, May 17, 2024, 9 AM-10 AM @ Carver High School (For Athletes) 

 12:30 PM-3:30 PM @ Wetumpka High School 

Speaker: JoJuan Armour is a former professional football player in the National Football and Canadian  Football Leagues. As a Teaching and Learning Consultant, Mr. Armour travels across the country to  support schools and communities by helping identify tools and resources that will positively impact  social-emotional development among students and residents. 

Monday, May 20, 2024, 9:00 AM-10:30 AM @ McKee Middle School 

Speaker: Marleik “Mar Mar” Walker, is a rap artist, actor, voice artist, songwriter, and talk show host. He  rose to fame by voicing Goby in the animated series Bubble Guppies, and Franklin in The Peanuts Movie.  Today, Marek is a college student who travels across the country to encourage youth to make positive  decisions For more information on COSA or prevention and recovery services offered, visit www.cosancadd.org.
