Alabama women veterans called to register their service with the Military Women’s Memorial

A statewide effort is underway to ensure the stories of Alabama’s women veterans are preserved and recognized for generations to come. Advocates are encouraging Alabama women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces to register their service with the Military Women’s Memorial.

The immediate focus is to improve Alabama’s registration count ahead of the NASDVA Conference on March 1. Every registration helps strengthen Alabama’s representation and ensures that the service, sacrifice, and achievements of women veterans are not lost to history.

“Your story matters—your battle, your shipmate, your wingman, your experience,” organizers said. “By registering, you are helping preserve the legacy of women who have served since the American Revolution and ensuring future generations understand their impact.”

The Military Women’s Memorial serves as the nation’s leading memorial and education center honoring the commitment, contributions, and experiences of servicewomen. More than three million women have served in or with the Armed Forces, yet many stories remain unrecorded. The Memorial’s Register provides a permanent place to document these histories.

Alabama women veterans who have not yet registered are encouraged to do so today. Community members are also asked to share the registration flyer, save it on their phones, and use the QR code to spread the word among fellow veterans, families, and organizations.

To learn more about the Register, why registration is important, and who is eligible, visit the Military Women’s Memorial website and explore Make HERstory. Registering is a meaningful way to honor service and ensure Alabama women veterans are recognized as an essential part of our nation’s military history.
