City of Montgomery unveils $3 million transit infrastructure upgrades

MONTGOMERY, AL — The City of Montgomery will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 29, at 9:30 a.m. CST, to celebrate the completion of a $3 million improvement project at the West Fairview Avenue Transfer Center.

Funded through the Coronavirus Stimulus and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) via the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), this project represents a major investment in the city’s public transportation infrastructure and its future.

The upgrades include enhanced passenger amenities, improved accessibility, smart transit technology integration, and revitalized transit hubs that will better serve residents, commuters, and visitors alike.

Introducing The M Transit

The ceremony will also mark the official unveiling of The M Transit — Montgomery’s reimagined public transportation system. Designed to be more modern, efficient, and rider-focused, The M Transit reflects the city’s commitment to equitable mobility, economic development, and environmental sustainability.

“The M Transit is more than a name — it’s a movement toward a more connected Montgomery,” said Mayor Steven Reed. “These improvements are just the beginning of a broader vision to make public transit a reliable and attractive option for all.”
