January 20, 2023
The Montgomery Zoo will be collaborating with Hilltop Public House and Montgomery’s American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) Chapter to kick off 2023 with a Coffee for Cougars Conservation Event at the Montgomery Zoo, January 28-29, 9am – 12pm each morning. Enjoy three unique, freshly brewed coffees, especially blended in honor of the Zoo\’s cougars; Echo, Eden, and Kuna. Provided by Hilltop Public House, these special blends of coffee may be purchased and enjoyed as you enter the Zoo.
The Montgomery Zoo currently houses three sibling cougars. They came to the Zoo in January 2020 from Zoo Boise after being orphaned. As with all of our animals, each feline has a distinct personality that makes them unique. Echo is the calm and personable of the three, Kuna is our wild child that is an “act first, think later” kind of boy, and Eden is our little princess that runs the show!
Conservation minded, Hilltop Public House has graciously offered to partner with the Zoo providing three coffee blends, specially prepared to represent each of the three cougars; a blonde roast for Eden, a dark roast for Kuna, and a decaf for Echo. To top it off there will also be a selection of delicious toppings to add to your coffee to make it just right for you. Coffee prices will range from $4-$6 per cup; and donations will be gladly accepted to help the cause.
All proceeds raised during the event will be donated to Florida Panther conservation efforts. The Florida Panther Fund, through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, supports the cougars’ southern neighbor, the Florida Panther, a subspecies of the North American cougar. This species is currently endangered and is protected under the Endangered Species Act. Florida Fish and Wildlife research the Florida Panther by looking at territory ranges, habitat needs, medical issues the species faces, and how to better educate people to coexist with this species.
The Montgomery Zoo is very excited about this inaugural Coffee for Cougars Conservation Event. Enjoy a fresh cup of coffee and stroll through the Zoo all while helping celebrate this amazing species and helping a species in need.
