Downtown Montgomery joins Main Street Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Downtown Montgomery is the state’s newest Main Street Alabama community. This recognition marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to revitalize and enhance the heart of Montgomery.

As a Main Street Alabama designated community, the City of Montgomery will have access to a comprehensive network of resources, expertise, and support from across the state to enhance the city\’s ongoing efforts to revitalize downtown Montgomery and make it a vibrant and engaging destination for residents and tourists.

“The Main Street Alabama program represents a transformative opportunity for our city, a chance to revitalize and preserve our historic downtown district,” said Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed. “Becoming a Main Street Alabama community is not simply a matter of adopting a new name or logo; it signifies a profound commitment to preserving and revitalizing the heart of our city.

“The Main Street Montgomery program will provide our community with access to a wealth of resources and support, meticulously designed to breathe new life into our downtown area. With the guidance of this program, we will strive to: Attract new businesses, entrepreneurs, and investors to our downtown area, fostering job opportunities and stimulating economic growth.”

Downtown Montgomery receives the designation following a months long process. The Montgomery Downtown Business Association (DBA) is set to transition into the Main Street Designated program. Brianna Cage, Commercial District Coordinator, City of Montgomery, will serve as interim director for the Main Street Program.

Downtown Montgomery joins Alexander City, Anniston, Athens, Atmore, Birmingham’s 4th Avenue Business District, Birmingham’s Woodlawn District, Calera, Centreville, Columbiana, Decatur, Demopolis, Elba, Enterprise, Eufaula, Florence, Foley, Fort Payne, Gadsden, Heflin, Jasper, Leeds, Marion, Montevallo, Monroeville, Opelika, Oxford, Jasper, Russellville, Scottsboro, South Huntsville, Talladega, and Wetumpka, as Designated Communities and Districts in Alabama.
