Fairview Farmers Market to undergo major renovation as cornerstone of West Montgomery Revitalization

MONTGOMERY, AL — A West Montgomery landmark is preparing for a new chapter. On June 1, 2026, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed announced that the historic Fairview Farmers Market – a long-time hub for fresh food, local growers, and community connection – will soon undergo a major renovation at its original home at 60 Fairview Avenue.

For decades, the market has anchored the Fairview Avenue corridor, offering residents a place to gather, shop, and support local agriculture. Now, through the Fairview Avenue Master Plan, part of the city’s broader West Montgomery revitalization strategy, the market is set to be modernized and expanded to better serve future generations.

“The farmers market is important because it brings about fresh food options for residents who don’t have some of the opportunities for the type of food and the type of wellness that we’d like to see them have here in the city,” Mayor Reed said during Monday’s announcement.

City leaders say the renovation will not only preserve the market’s historic role but also position it as a catalyst for new business activity and community engagement along the corridor. The project is expected to unfold over the next 18 months.

Mayor Reed emphasized that West Montgomery is central to the city’s economic and community development efforts.
“We want businesses and investors to know that West Montgomery is open and that we are going to continue to invest here, and we want them to continue to invest and partner with us.”

The market renovation adds to a growing list of public investments in the area, including a $19 million fire station, a new transit station, and the transformation of West Fairview Avenue. The ongoing $9 million infrastructure project, which started in 2024, has already delivered improved drainage, sidewalks, landscaping, new traffic signals, and a redesigned roadway to enhance safety and access for local businesses.

Council members Franetta Riley and Andrew Szymanski, whose districts include Fairview Avenue, praised the progress.
“Now we see progress. My grounds are revived, rejuvenated, and restructured,” Riley said.“Over the next 18 months, we’re going to get to watch as Fairview is truly transformed into a viable commercial corridor which this area desperately needs,” added Szymanski.

The renovation of the Fairview Farmers Market reflects a shared vision for West Montgomery, one rooted in honoring its past while building a stronger, more vibrant future. With support from local partners, including DuBose Construction Company and Goodwyn Mills Cawood, much of the investment will stay within Alabama, fueling growth in both the community and the state.

As the transformation begins, one thing is clear: Fairview’s future is bright, and its revitalized market will once again stand as a place where neighbors gather, businesses grow, and opportunity thrives.
