Four Star Freightliner registers Diesel Technician Apprenticeship Program with the state of Alabama

MONTGOMERY, ALA., January 27, 2025 –  Four Star Freightliner has elevated its longstanding commitment to workforce development by officially registering its Diesel Technician Apprenticeship Program with Alabama, meeting the rigors of federal U.S. Department of Labor standards. While Four Star has successfully operated an in-house training program for several years, this new designation will ensure apprentices graduate with nationally recognized credentials and a comprehensive skill set.

“Our existing program has been successful, but I wanted it to be even better,” said David Carroll, Training Director at Four Star Freightliner, who worked closely with Human Resources Director Suzy Herring to develop and register the program. “This apprentice program not only enhances the training structure but also allows us to track the progress of each apprentice, helping them achieve specific competencies and milestones. They’ll gain certifications, skills, and confidence that will make them standout technicians in our industry.”

What Sets the Program Apart?

  • Hands-On Training with a Mentor: Apprentices receive on-the-job learning under the guidance of experienced mentors and are provided with their own professional toolbox.
  • Competency-Based Learning: The program tracks the development of critical skills, offering pay increases as apprentices achieve milestones.
  • Career Readiness: Upon completion of the one-year program, apprentices will be system-certified and prepared for a high-wage career in diesel technology.
  • Proven Success Model: Registered apprenticeships are nationally recognized as an effective way to meet workforce needs. Employers benefit from increased productivity, retention, and diversity, while apprentices gain valuable skills and certifications.

“Through this program, we can help apprentices not only learn but excel,” Carroll added. “By the time they finish, they’ll be highly qualified and ready to hit the ground running as diesel technicians.”

This milestone marks an expansion of Four Star Freightliner’s ongoing efforts to develop its workforce. As a leading medium and heavy-duty truck dealer, the company is dedicated to providing cutting-edge training and creating opportunities for career growth.

David Carroll is also planning to collaborate with officials in Georgia and Florida to register the company’s apprentice program in those states. That will allow apprentices at Four Star Freightliner locations there to benefit from the same nationally accredited training.
