Montgomery, AL: FreshGreens Market, Montgomery’s first community-rooted organic urban farm and market, officially broke ground on its new flagship location on Monday, July 21st.
Co-founded by sisters Erica and Erin Washington, FreshGreens Market honors the legacy of their great-grandfather and grandmother, who ran a grocery store on the very same lot in the 1940s. Now, the Washington sisters are continuing that legacy by bringing real, nourishing food back to West Montgomery—this time with a focus on organic, chemical-free, and locally grown produce.
FreshGreens Market is proud to be one of Shipt’s LadderUp Accelerator participants and has been recognized as one of only 11 Fresh Food Champions nationwide—an honor given to innovative organizations driving solutions in fresh food access and equity.
FreshGreens Market grows food on five green spaces in West Montgomery and a 10-acre farm just outside the city. Their impact is already felt across the community through several key initiatives, including the ongoing Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program, a highlight of their mission.
The CSA Program, currently in operation, is a weekly subscription box that features 5–7 seasonal, farm-fresh produce items in every box. The program includes both pickup and delivery options, along with healthy recipes and featured farmer stories to help customers connect with their food and the people who grow it. The CSA runs April through November and is a vital part of FreshGreens’ effort to create a healthier, more food-resilient Montgomery.
The new FreshGreens Market facility—scheduled to open in Fall 2025—will include a retail space, educational area, and a community gathering spot. Construction is being led by Russell Construction.
