Goodwyn Mills Cawood’s (GMC) Senior Technical Leader Jim Grassiano, PE has been awarded the Harris F. Seidel Lifetime Achievement Award given by Water Professionals International (WPI). The Harris F. Seidel Lifetime Achievement Award is the premier award issued by WPI and is presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding lifetime contribution toward advancing the cause of certifying environmental professionals. The criteria for the award include contribution of time and effort, innovative and successful approaches, leadership, development of materials, or a combination of any of these.
Grassiano’s career spans almost four decades in the public and private sectors, including more than 35 years with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) prior to joining GMC. He has developed specialties in industrial process operations, industrial and municipal wastewater treatment and domestic drinking water treatment, in addition to comprehensive regulatory experience solving environmental compliance issues. Over the years, he has worked to solve complex problems to improve plant performance, reduce capital costs and improve electrical efficiency.
Grassiano served as the chair of Water Professionals International (WPI) and now serves as the immediate past chair. He also served as the ADEM Liaison to Alabama Water Works, Alabama Water Pollution Control Association and Alabama Rural Water Association and has an excellent history of grant management with the EPA and the Department of Energy. As the former ombudsman and manager of the Operator Certification and Compliance Assistance Programs at ADEM, he has notable regulatory experience tackling challenging water and wastewater concerns.
Prior accolades Grassiano received in his career include the WPI Robert C. McAnespie Outstanding Officer Award and the AWPCA Charles W. White Award.
