Grove Station finds a new home in Wetumpka

Wetumpka’s historic business district is welcoming a highly anticipated new addition! The city and community leaders gathered to celebrate the redevelopment happening on Company Street and unveil the exciting new business that will soon call this space home—Grove Station.

This project marks another milestone in Wetumpka’s ongoing revitalization, thanks to the vision and dedication of Jamie and Cathy Thornton. Longtime residents and passionate supporters of Wetumpka’s growth, the Thorntons purchased the long-vacant building in 2024 with a commitment to reinvesting in their community. Working alongside the City of Wetumpka Economic Development Department, the Wetumpka Downtown Redevelopment Authority (WDRA), and Main Street Wetumpka, the Thorntons have helped bring this transformative project to life.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Jerry Willis emphasized the significance of this moment, noting that the redevelopment of 105 Company Street marks the completion of the last vacant building in Wetumpka’s immediate downtown district, stating, “This is not just about a new business opening—it’s about the transformation of our downtown. The success we see today is the result of strong public-private partnerships and the commitment of business owners, city leaders, and organizations working together to preserve and grow our historic district.”

Mayor Willis also highlighted the contributions of key leaders in making this project possible, including City Council members, Councilman Steve Gantt, the Wetumpka Downtown Redevelopment Authority, Main Street Wetumpka Director Haley Green, and the Main Street Board, and Economic Development Director Lynn Weldon.

He specifically recognized Jamie and Cathy Thornton, whose investment on Company Street will breathe new life into a space that had been vacant for decades, stating, “Jamie and Cathy Thornton have been passionate supporters of this community for many years. Their decision to purchase and redevelop this building downtown is a testament to their belief in Wetumpka’s future.”

Grove Station, owned by Corrie Sid, is a specialty food market and gathering place that blends high-quality foods with a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere. Featuring an artisanal bakery, curated culinary experiences, and locally sourced goods, the space will provide a one-of-a-kind shopping and dining experience that highlights Wetumpka’s growing food scene.

As Mayor Willis noted, this addition will further enhance downtown, attract more visitors, and continue the momentum Wetumpka has built over the past several years.

Before finding its new home in Wetumpka, Corrie made the difficult decision to close Grove Station at its original location. She knew her business needed a new community to continue growing and thriving—and Wetumpka proved to be the perfect fit. Now, with plans in place, construction on the new space will begin soon, and the city eagerly awaits its grand opening.

Corrie Sid is no stranger to the Wetumpka food scene. In 2023, she purchased Our Place Café, a longtime local favorite known for its Southern Creole cuisine and welcoming atmosphere. Since taking ownership, Corrie has honored the restaurant’s rich legacy while adding thoughtful updates that enhance its charm and appeal. Under her leadership, Our Place Café continues to be a staple for both locals and visitors, showcasing the very best of Wetumpka’s hospitality.

Now, with Grove Station set to join the city’s vibrant business landscape, Wetumpka is poised to offer even more incredible dining and shopping experiences.

Since 2016, private investments in Wetumpka’s historic district have exceeded $6.9 million, bringing new life to once-vacant buildings and increasing the district’s occupancy rate to over 90%. The addition of Grove Station further solidifies the city’s dedication to economic vitality, historic preservation, and community-driven growth.

As construction progresses, the community is encouraged to follow Grove Station on Facebook and Instagram for updates on the project.
