As a brand that has always made groundbreaking developments in technology and safety, Mercedes-Benz is the first to offer level 3 autonomous driving. For 2024 the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan and S-Class will be the first vehicles to have this feature in the US.
There are 6 levels of autonomous driving. Level 3, also called “conditional automation”, means the vehicle can perform most driving tasks and has full environmental detection capabilities. While the car can handle most driving duties, it still requires the driver to be able to take over at
any time.
Mercedes-Benz has a long history of safety innovation. They were the first to introduce traction control, antilock braking, the patent for the airbag, and the surround-view camera system, just to name a few on a long list. They also developed what we now know as “crumple zones” as early as 1951. We can expect to see Mercedes’ latest technological revolution as soon as the second half of 2023.
