Mayor Reed selected to speak at Milken Institute Global Conference

Montgomery, AL – Mayor Steven L. Reed has been selected as a speaker for the Milken Institute’s 2024 Global Conference

This prestigious annual event features thought leaders, innovators and change-makers from around the world. This year’s theme will focus on “Shaping a Shared Future.”

Mayor Reed’s participation underscores his commitment to equitable economic and community development that is driven by climate resilience and progressive policy-making.

Scheduled to take place amidst the backdrop of pressing global challenges, including geopolitical tensions and the climate crisis, the conference aims to explore collaborative strategies to address these complex issues. Despite the emergence of various federal funding opportunities, underserved communities in rural, urban, and tribal areas continue to face obstacles in accessing the necessary capital and resources to advance their projects. Mayor Reed’s session will convene community leaders, capital providers, impact investors, and philanthropic figures to discuss innovative policy, finance, and technological solutions.

“As Montgomery’s mayor, I am deeply committed to creating a more equitable, progressive, and compassionate city,” stated Mayor Reed. “This conference provides an invaluable platform to engage in meaningful dialogue and catalyze action towards building a stronger pipeline of shovel-worthy and investment-ready projects.”

Mayor Reed, who began his second term in November 2023, brings a wealth of experience and insight to the table. A native of Montgomery and an alumnus of Morehouse College and Vanderbilt University, where he earned his MBA, Mayor Reed is well-equipped to lead discussions on driving positive change and fostering inclusive growth.

In addition to his speaking role at the 2024 Global Conference, Mayor Reed serves as the newly appointed President of the African American Mayors Association (AAMA) and is a distinguished member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Board of Trustees.
