The Spirit of Christmas Committee has planned a number of events that will be sure to put everyone into the holiday spirit. Thanks to the City of Millbrook Parks and Recreation Department and the Cultural Arts and Special Events Department, the Village Green Park, a favorite gathering place of the community, is being transformed into a dazzling Winter Wonderland to be unveiled at the City’s annual tree lighting event.
On Thursday, December 5, 2024, the City will kick off the season with the community Tree Lighting at the Village Green Park at 6:00 pm. The event will be emceed by WAKA meteorologist Shane Butler with prayer offered by the Reverend Mike Harber, St Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church. Activities include: a live nativity with the story of the birth of Jesus, caroling and sing-a-long, balloon artist Greg Taunton and a free hot chocolate bar with all the fixings, provided courtesy of Kingdom Dough. The evening’s schedule of events is as follows:
** 5:00-7:00 pm: Food Trucks on-site. Enjoy the delicious fare provided by Fountain City Food Truck, Jennifer’s, Pops n Sons, Domino’s Pizza, Made by Molly Cookies, and Norris Concessions- Kendall’s Kitchen.
** 5:30-6:30 pm: Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Village Green stage.
** 6:00 pm: Tree Lighting Ceremony of which there is a 100% chance of snow!
On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the City will host the community’s annual Christmas Festival at the Village Green Park from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Over 75 vendors will be on the grounds to help you with your Christmas shopping. Live entertainment includes Lisa’s Dance Dimensions, Airport Road Intermediate School Choir, Airport Road Intermediate School Dance Team, and Chung’s Taekwondo. Another opportunity to have photos taken with Santa will be provided on stage from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm sponsored by Valley Bank. Barry Chrietzberg Photography will be on hand to take photos of children with Santa free of charge.
The parade rolls out at 2:00 pm on Main Street (SR-143) with Jamie Brown, Heart of Alabama Food Bank, serving as emcee. This year’s Grand Marshals are World War II Veteran James Owen Dozier, Elmore County’s oldest living WWII veteran, and Rex Keith Snider, Sr. and Robert J. Magdon, Sr., both Korean War Veterans. The City is honored to recognize these individuals for their service to our country.
New to the schedule of holiday events this year is “Frozen Friday.” On Friday, December 13, 2024, at 6 pm, the community is invited to view a “Movie Under the Stars” at the Village Green Park. There will be a variety of on-site food options provided by Millbrook Parks and Recreation, the Sweet Hook Up, Kona Ice, Domino’s Pizza, and Made by Molly Cookies. Free face painting by Sweet Cheeks & Treats. Elsa & Ana characters from the Party Palace will also make an appearance. You and your kids will love it!
Additionally, there is one more ornament to add to your tree or gift. The Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce has this year’s collectible Christmas ornament, designed by artist Trish Gober, available at both the Chamber offices and The Art Mill. The cost of the ornament is $15. Be sure to get one before they’re gone!
