Montgomery Ballet announces permanent home after nearly 70 years

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — After nearly seven decades of serving as a cornerstone of the arts in Central Alabama, the Montgomery Ballet is proud to announce it has secured a permanent home. The company will soon relocate to the former Dixie Cleaners building on Coliseum Boulevard, marking a historic moment not only for the organization but for the entire River Region arts community.

Since 2020, the Montgomery Ballet has operated from several temporary locations, including a longtime home in the Courtyard Building on Eastern Boulevard, a brief relocation to Cloverdale, and most recently, a space on East Fairview Avenue. The latter was intended as a long-term solution but became unavailable following the unexpected passing of Mike Watson, a key supporter who helped the Ballet secure that space.

Renovations on the new Coliseum Boulevard facility will begin this summer. Once completed, the space will feature:

  • Two fully-equipped studios for daily classes and rehearsals
  • A dedicated costume shop to support both productions and educational programs
  • A black box theater within the larger studio, offering flexible space for performances

To support these renovations, the Montgomery Ballet is launching a community fundraising campaign. Supporters and community members interested in contributing can contact Artistic Executive Director Danny Mitsios at [email protected] or by calling 334-409-0522.
