Montgomery, AL (April 4, 2025) – The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that the Capital Region continues to lead Alabama in economic performance, with new data from the 2024 New & Expanding Industry Announcements Report by the Alabama Department of Commerce confirming Montgomery as one of the state’s top performers.
In a year when Alabama secured over $7 billion in capital investment and more than 8,500 new job commitments, Montgomery and the Capital Region stood out—not just for strong numbers, but for their strategic importance in building a more competitive Southeast.
Montgomery ranked:

- #2 for Jobs Created by New Projects
- #4 for Number of New Projects Announced
- #2 Overall for Total Capital Investment
- #4 for Total Jobs Created
- #6 for Total Projects Announced
In total, Montgomery landed $1.1 billion in capital investment and 497 new jobs in 2024—clear evidence of the strength, readiness, and momentum powering Montgomery’s Capital Region.

This performance isn’t an outlier—it’s a trend. For four of the last five years, Montgomery has ranked among the Top 3 counties in the state for capital investment, job creation, or both.
And beyond the numbers, the projects tell the story:
- Meta’s $840 million data center announcement cements our digital economy role.
- Hyundai’s 20 years in Montgomery is not just a milestone—it’s a continued catalyst for global recognition, workforce strength, and supplier growth across the region.
- The $94 million Montgomery Inland Port, which broke ground on Feb. 27, 2025, will boost logistics and supply chain connectivity for regional companies and national brands like Amazon and FedEx.
- Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base and our defense sector continue to deliver a $2.6 billion economic impact, anchoring jobs, innovation, and opportunity across Central Alabama.
- Chamber’s TechMGM is leading the region’s STEM pipeline fueling a robust talent pipeline and driving targeted workforce development across sectors like defense, healthcare, IT, and advanced manufacturing—positioning the region to compete and win in the innovation economy.
- National recognition – the capital region was ranked among the Top 10 in the U.S. for project growth among I-85 corridor counties, and the Montgomery Chamber was twice named one of the nation’s Top 20 Economic Development Organizations over the past decade— both honors awarded by Site Selection Magazine.
This progress reflects the regional priorities of the Department of Commerce’s Catalyst strategy and the Montgomery Chamber’s Pillars of Focus: targeted economic development, talent and workforce, and tourism and experience.
