Montgomery Chamber secures $1.276 million SEEDS Grant to drive industrial growth and expand logistics hub

Montgomery, Alabama – February 26, 2025 – The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Team has been awarded a $1,276,500 SEEDS grant to facilitate the acquisition of the 111-acre Del Sol property, a key addition to Montgomery’s expanding industrial corridor. This strategic investment is made possible through the State Industrial Development Authority’s Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy (SEEDS) program.

A High-Impact Investment in Montgomery’s Industrial Future

The Del Sol property, zoned for light industrial use, is strategically positioned to support business growth and attract high-value industries. Its location provides exceptional access to transportation infrastructure, sitting adjacent to the five-lane U.S. Highway 31, just one mile from Interstate 65, eight miles from Interstate 85, and seven miles from Montgomery Regional Airport. This acquisition aligns with Montgomery’s ongoing industrial expansion, fueled by the development of the Montgomery Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF). As a key component of Alabama’s Southeast Logistics Hub, the Montgomery ICTF will enhance freight mobility, reduce transportation costs, and streamline supply chain operations, further strengthening Montgomery and the surrounding region as a prime destination for manufacturers and distributors.

Ensuring Development-Ready Industrial Sites

In addition to its prime location, the Del Sol property has undergone extensive due diligence to ensure it is ready for development. Forward-thinking investments like this wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration of key partners dedicated to advancing economic growth. Firms like Goodwyn Mills Cawoodhave been instrumental in shaping Montgomery’s industrial landscape, providing expertise in site evaluation and infrastructure planning that strengthens our ability to attract high-impact projects and create new jobs for the region.

“Our mission at the Montgomery Chamber is clear: we drive growth for our region through strong public and private partnerships with a commitment to advancing economic opportunities,”said Stacia Robinson, Chairman of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce. “By investing in site readiness, we’re not just preparing land—we’re preparing the region for long-term economic success.”

Liston Eddins, speaking on behalf of the Industrial Development Board (IDB), highlighted the critical role of SEEDS funding in advancing industrial growth: “The SEEDS program gives us the additional resources we need to identify properties for industrial development and bring them to the open market in a timely manner. The sooner we get the properties to the open market; the sooner we have more jobs for the people in the region. The Industrial Development Board (IDB) wishes to express our sincere appreciation for the tireless effort of our economic development team and the Montgomery Chamber. The IDB, the economic development arm, and the Montgomery Chamber enjoy a positive team approach.”

This latest round of SEEDS funding will help cities and rural communities alike attract industries that create meaningful opportunities for Alabamians—opportunities that will benefit our workforce, businesses, and economy for generations. As Alabama continues to invest in industrial site readiness and logistics infrastructure, Montgomery is well-positioned to compete for high-impact projects that will bring new industries, workforce opportunities, and long-term economic benefits to the region.
