MONTGOMERY, AL (Nov. 13, 2024) — The Montgomery County Commission proudly held its swearing-in and organizational meeting Wednesday at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre.
Commissioners Daniel Harris, Jr. (District 1), Carmen Moore-Zeigler (District 2), Justin M. Castanza (District 3), Isaiah Sankey (District 4) and Doug Singleton (District 5) took their oaths of office, beginning their four-year terms dedicated to serving the residents of Montgomery County.
In addition to the swearing-in, the meeting featured the election of the Commission’s Chairman and Vice Chairman. Commissioner Doug Singleton of District 5, who has served on the Commission for eight years and as chairman since 2022, was re-elected to continue leading in this pivotal role. “I am honored to take on this role and work collaboratively with my colleagues for the betterment of our county,” said Singleton. “My goal is to continue building on the work we have already accomplished, ensuring that Montgomery County remains a place where innovation and opportunity thrive. I am committed to listening to our residents and addressing their needs with transparency and dedication, working together to create an environment where everyone can succeed.”
Commissioner Carmen Moore-Zeigler of District 2, who has served on the Commission since 2022, was elected vice chairman, becoming the first African American female to hold this position. “I look forward to supporting the Commission’s initiatives and advocating for policies that strengthen Montgomery County,” Moore-Zeigler said. “This role is an incredible opportunity to serve our county with a renewed focus on partnerships and inclusive growth. I am committed to working hand in hand with our team to ensure that we foster trust, engage openly with residents, and champion projects that bring real, positive change to our neighborhoods. Together, we can make Montgomery County a model of progress and unity.”
