Montgomery passes new tourism improvement district

Montgomery, Alabama – Ron Simmons, Chief Officer for Experience Montgomery, announced the official establishment of Montgomery’s Tourism Improvement District (TID). The Montgomery Tourism Improvement District (MTGTID) has been created with an assessment rate of $1.50 per occupied room night. This new assessment will generate an additional source of funding for tourism, allowing Montgomery’s hospitality partners to increase hotel occupancy and visitor spending. The establishment of the Tourism Improvement District marks a significant advancement in the collaborative efforts to elevate the hospitality and tourism industries in the city. Positioned as a premier convention center, a growing sports venue, and the state’s leading destination for international visitors, Montgomery stands to gain immensely from this initiative.

Here’s how the TID will benefit hospitality partners:

Increased Hotel Occupancy: The $1.50 per occupied room night assessment funds targeted marketing to attract more visitors, directly increasing hotel occupancy.

Enhanced Visitor Spending: More resources can enhance visitor experiences. This will lead to longer stays and increased spending at hospitality establishments.

Global Reach: Doubling marketing resources amplifies Montgomery’s presence on a global scale, attracting more international tourists. Solidifying Montgomery further as the top international destination in the state.

“Your unwavering support has played a pivotal role in making this vision a reality. I commend the efforts of the steering committee, partners at Civitas, and our team including Sheron Rose, EVP External & Governmental Affairs of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce. Together, we achieved a unanimous endorsement from the city council signifying our shared conviction about the transformative impact of tourism,” said Simmons.

Last year’s impressive economic impact of $1.2 billion by visitors sets the stage for even greater accomplishments. The MTGTID is more than a funding mechanism; it is a promise to visitors, hospitality partners, and locals that Montgomery will thrive as a vibrant, dynamic destination.
