Montgomery Symphony Orchestra opens 2025–2026 season

Montgomery, AL — September 15, 2025 — Montgomery Symphony Orchestra will begin its 2025–2026 Masterworks Series with a program featuring Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major, “Titan.” The concert will take place on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Troy University’s Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Montgomery.

The program will open with Voices Shouting Out by Dr. Nkeiru Okoye, Montgomery Symphony Orchestra’s William L. Dawson Composer-in-Residence. Pianist Evren Ozel, bronze medalist of the 2025 Cliburn International Piano Competition, will then perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488. The concert will conclude with Mahler’s “Titan” Symphony, a landmark work that marked his arrival as a symphonic composer.

“Our season opener represents everything the MSO values artistically as we approach 50 years of music making as an orchestra, ” said Jamie Reeves, Music Director and Conductor. “This program engages creators of our time through Nkeiru Okoye’s Voices Shouting Out, features world-class talent in piano soloist Evren Ozel, and inspires a deeply meaningful exploration of the human experience with one of the most beloved pieces in the symphonic repertoire, Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. Our goal this season, and every season, is to bring our community together through the miracle of live symphonic music.”
