The Montgomery Lions Club and the City of Montgomery host preview of the MLC Children’s Sensory Trail

The Children’s Sensory Trail serves as a vital, walkable connection between Riverfront Park and the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park. It is the newest segment of the ongoing Riverfront Greenway Trail project, a vision for a vibrant, family-friendly, walkable attraction along the Alabama River. When fully completed, the trail will connect Maxwell Air Force Base to the Montgomery Marina.

Designed for all to enjoy, this trail segment places special emphasis on sight-impaired youth, encouraging visitors to experience the scenery through multiple senses. Features include bright wildflowers, ropes to aid walking, and interactive percussive musical instruments, all within earshot of nearby trains. The trail also offers spectacular new views of Downtown.

The Montgomery Lions Club contributed $120,000 towards the construction of this segment, with the remaining funds sourced from federal transportation funds managed by the City of Montgomery. The construction was executed by Odom Construction.

The preview event will include a guided walk through the trail, concluding at Riverfront Park. Participants can then enjoy a complimentary ride on the city’s signature Sip-N-Cycle pedal boat, hosted by the Alabama River Foundation. Pre-registration for the boat ride is required.
