The YMCA of Greater Montgomery and Hoops League announce an exciting partnership to enhance Youth Basketball in the River Region

Montgomery, AL — The YMCA of Greater Montgomery is proud to  announce a new partnership with the Hoops League, aimed at expanding  and enriching basketball opportunities for youth across the River Region.  This collaboration is a major step forward in supporting young athletes as  they develop their skills, character, and love for the game.

Beginning this fall, the YMCA of Greater Montgomery will merge and  manage Hoops League boys and girls grades 4th, 5th, and 6th as  part of a newly structured youth basketball program that will now be  divided into Competitive and Recreational leagues. The Hoops League will  serve as the Recreational League, welcoming players of all experience levels  and focusing on fundamental skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun  and inclusive environment.

Hoops League’s growth over the past several years makes joining forces  with the YMCA a natural next step. The YMCA’s facilities will provide more  courts to host both games and practices—allowing even more youth to  participate.

The new partnership will launch under the name “Hoops League at the Y” for the 2025–2026 season. The format will remain familiar to returning  families: participants will still be able to form their own teams, just as  in previous years.

Additionally, Hoops League will continue to offer its 1st through 3rd  grade boys and girls program at Holy Spirit Gym, with the intent to  merge those age groups into YMCA programming in the future.

“This partnership is a slam dunk for the River Region,” said AJ Hernandez,  President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. “We’re thrilled to  join forces with the Hoops League to give even more kids a chance to play,  grow, and thrive through basketball. Together, we’re building a brighter  future—on and off the court.”

John David Barranco, CEO of the Hoops League, shared his enthusiasm:  “Teaming up with the YMCA allows us to reach more youth and provide them  with the structure, mentorship, and energy that makes basketball such a  powerful tool for growth. We’re excited to continue creating spaces where  kids can compete, learn, and love the game in a supportive and welcoming  environment.”

To ensure a smooth and successful transition, John David Barranco and  Caroline Warren will continue to be actively involved throughout the  first year of Hoops League at the Y.

This new collaboration is set to bring fresh energy, expanded opportunities,  and greater community reach to basketball-loving youth in the area. More  information on registration for the upcoming season will be released in Fall  2025.
