MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Dec. 5, 2023) – Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that Montgomery partner Charles “Chuck” Stewart has been named president of the Alabama Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He will serve a one-year term effective January 1, 2024.
ABOTA is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the Constitution. Founded in 1958, ABOTA is comprised of more than 7,300 lawyers and judges spread among 96 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. As president of the Alabama chapter, Mr. Stewart will oversee more than 100 members in the state and work to coordinate events aimed at interacting with the judiciary, as well as host educational programs and activities.

Mr. Stewart has more than 35 years of experience successfully trying complex trials involving business disputes, product liability, intellectual property, construction, employment and catastrophic personal injuries in multiple states. He has defended several class actions to defense verdicts, including matters involving antitrust claims (price-fixing), racial steering in the sale of real estate, and group health insurance. Mr. Stewart has also assisted clients facing government investigations and qui tam matters and defended clients facing bet-the-company multi-district litigation. His experience also includes representing attorneys, hospitals and architects in actions alleging malpractice.
Mr. Stewart is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was the first attorney under the age of 40 to be elected president of the Alabama Defense Lawyer’s Association. He is active in other practice-related organizations, including the International Association of Defense Counsel, DRI and the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel. Mr. Stewart has been a certified mediator for more than 20 years and serves as a both a private mediator and arbitrator.
