MONTGOMERY, AL – After more than 10 years of dedicated service to the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, Chief Executive Officer Gary A. Cobbs, will be embarking on another opportunity within the YMCA.
Gary\’s impact on the River Region and the YMCA movement has been immeasurable. Throughout his tenure Gary has been instrumental in revitalizing key areas such as leadership development, strategic planning, philanthropy efforts, community development, membership growth, and most importantly, youth development. Gary is known for initiating the Brown Bag Bus program which combats food insecurity. While serving as CEO of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, Gary also served on numerous community boards and the YMCA of USA National Board.
YMCA of Greater Montgomery Board Chair General Ed Crowell said, “Gary has been an integral part of our community, fostering growth, inclusivity, and positive change. As we bid farewell to Gary, we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for our YMCA.”
The YMCA of Greater Montgomery will be working closely with YMCA of the USA to organize a comprehensive transition plan and a nationwide CEO search process, ensuring the continuity of the exceptional services and programs that define our YMCA. While the search for the next CEO continues, YMCA of Greater Montgomery Executive board member Sim Sippial will serve as Interim CEO.
Sim Sippial has an impressive and diverse array of accomplishments throughout his distinguished career. Sim started his career at the IBM Cooperation where he demonstrated his technical, marketing, management, people, and leadership skills throughout the United States, where he was recognized numerous times for his accomplishments. Sim’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start a real estate investment company which he still manages today. He’s served on the Colonial Bank board for 20 years, serving on all major committees, and as the chairman of the Colonial Bank board and Colonial Bank Holding Company board.
Sim\’s commitment to community service is evident in his remarkable 46 years of volunteer work at the YMCA. He’s held significant board and committee roles within the YMCA of Greater Montgomery and was honored as the YMCA Past Man of the Year, reflecting the impact of his efforts on both professional and community levels.
As the YMCA of Greater Montgomery embarks on a new chapter, they look forward to the guidance of Interim CEO Sim Sippial who remains committed to upholding the legacy that the YMCA has in the community.
