The Junior League of Montgomery

For nearly a century, the Junior League of Montgomery has been driven by a clear purpose rooted in volunteer service, leadership development and meaningful community engagement. Founded in 1926 by a group of women who saw needs in the community and chose to meet them through service, the organization began with hands-on efforts to improve the quality of life in Montgomery. Over the years, the League has started more than 15 nonprofits, raised millions of dollars and helped spearhead important community assets such as The Armory and the Old Alabama Town park.

One of the defining characteristics of the Junior League of Montgomery has been its ability to evolve alongside the needs of the community. From direct service projects to strong partnerships and leadership training programs, each chapter has shaped its approach. As the League celebrates its centennial in 2026, it reflects both longevity and a continued commitment to creating extraordinary impact across generations.

That impact is seen not only in the organizations supported, but in the women developed through the League, many of whom go on to serve in leadership roles across the city. Over time, the League has adapted to meet the evolving needs of Montgomery as well as the realities of the modern woman’s life. Today, its nearly 700 members include executives, community leaders, entrepreneurs, mothers and professionals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, contributing approximately 20,000 volunteer hours each year while continuing to broaden access, create opportunity and prepare women for leadership throughout the community.

“Extraordinary impact has always been powered by people who are willing to lead with both heart and purpose,” said Amerika Blair, JLM President.

Guided by values of integrity, inclusion and service, the Junior League of Montgomery has adapted to meet changing needs while remaining focused on its mission. As it looks toward its second century, the League remains committed to strengthening the community, investing in future leaders and ensuring its legacy of service continues for years to come.

Upcoming fundraisers include the College and Career Fair on September 14, 2026, and the 28th annual Holiday Market, taking place October 15 through 17, 2026.
