Kimberly Justice has worked with Alabama State Veterans Homes for over 25 years and now serves as the Executive Director where she oversees Alabama’s five State Veterans Homes located in Alexander City, Bay Minette, Enterprise, Pell City and Huntsville. Justice is also responsible for the State Home Construction Grant Program and oversees all capital projects.
I AM EXCITED ABOUT the completion and opening of our fifth State Veterans Home. The CSM Bennie G. Adkins State Veterans Home in Enterprise is a 174-bed skilled care facility for Alabama Veterans. We began in 2018 with a feasibility study, followed by grant application, planning, procurement and construction. It is exciting to see the culmination of our efforts.
I’VE LEARNED THE HARD WAY THAT we can’t make everyone happy, but that doesn’t mean we should quit trying.
THE TOOLS OF OUR TRADE are commitment to service and always being willing to listen and treating others with kindness and respect.
I AM HONORED TO have the opportunity to serve those who have served. It is truly a privilege to which I’ve committed my life. Although I am not a veteran myself, my father is a retired veteran who served our country for over 30 years.
OUR CLIENTS DO BUSINESS WITH US BECAUSE we provide care with honor. We work hard to get benefits veterans are entitled to.
WE VALUE keeping our veterans homes at optimal levels to give them the most homelike experience—their home away from home.
CURRENTLY, WE ARE WORKING ON admitting our first veterans to the new State Veterans Home. This includes training staff, passing inspections, meal planning, preparing spaces and working with veterans and families. The construction is done, but our work continues.
I HOPE WOMEN WILL take a chance when opportunities present themselves. I was the first female non-veteran to be selected as a state veterans home director and then as executive director.
WE MAKE AN IMPACT BY providing skilled nursing care for Alabama’s veterans, who can live among their comrades in our five State Veterans Homes. Veterans are entitled to federal and state benefits in these homes, keeping the cost to the veteran at a minimum.
