The Alabama Department of Commerce has been recognized as one of Business Facilities magazine’s Economic Development Organizations of the Year, a prestigious national honor that highlights standout achievements in driving economic growth and innovation.
Among the initiatives earning special recognition is the $30 million Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology Center currently under construction by AIDT, Alabama’s premier workforce development agency. Located at the Alabama Robotics Technology Park in Tanner, the cutting-edge facility broke ground in October 2024 and is on track for completion in August 2025.
The EV Technology Center is being developed in partnership with a statewide EV Technology Committee, which includes representatives from Alabama’s leading automakers and suppliers, the University of Alabama, Auburn University, the Alabama Community College System, and SAE International. This collaborative approach ensures the center will serve as a vital hub for workforce readiness in the rapidly evolving EV sector.
This national recognition underscores Alabama’s growing leadership in advanced manufacturing and workforce innovation as the state positions itself at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution.
