Attorney Kristen Gillis credits her parents for keeping her grounded and encouraging her throughout her life so far; her dad gets extra credit for introducing her to his work and sparking her interest in a law career.
“My dad is an amazing attorney, and I spent many days as a child in his office,” she said. The other motivating factor was Gillis’ service mindset, one that she uses daily on behalf of her clients handling personal injury, wrongful death, trucking accidents and civil litigation matters. “I became a lawyer because I enjoy helping others,” she said.
“Every part of your development personally and professionally is a journey, so give yourself grace in the process.”
Helping Hand
I am a member of various civic organizations such as The Links, Incorporated and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I also serve on the Baptist Health Foundation Board of Directors. During the pandemic, I co-founded a nonprofit called Until We Do It alongside three other women with the mission to provide PPE to communities most in need. We worked with organizations, celebrities, companies and government officials across the United States to distribute almost one million masks. We were featured on “The Today Show” and in Vogue magazine. We had some amazing partnerships with Cosmopolitan magazine, Rent the Runway, New Balance and The Real Real.
Point of Pride
I am proud of the acceleration of my individual and professional growth within the last two years especially. I recently became managing partner for my law firm, Gillis Law Group, P.C.
TOP TIP: I would share this advice with young women: Every part of your development personally and professionally is a journey, so give yourself grace in the process. Develop a positive mindset and remember that whether it be wins or losses, either one is gained ground.

God keeps me grounded. I cannot say it enough that a relationship with God will give you peace, happiness and encouragement for the rough days. Get to know Him.
Fast Forward
I hope to continue to fine-tune my legal and business skills so I can continue serving the River Region, but questions about the future and plans also make me think about Proverbs 19:21: “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” So, what God has for me is what my plan is!

Often, when I meet clients, it is one of the most difficult times of their lives, and it is an honor to be in a position to be of aid to them.
