“I enjoy supporting and encouraging women as they navigate their careers, whether through formal mentorship or simply being a resource when they need it.”
As State Director of Government Affairs for Target, Molly Cagle works at the intersection of business, policy and community impact, helping shape initiatives that support safer communities, retail innovation and economic growth across the Southeast. From leading advocacy efforts around organized retail crime and consumer protection to building strategic relationships with elected officials and community leaders, her role requires both strategic insight and a strong commitment to collaboration. Cagle’s career path has been guided by a willingness to embrace new opportunities, from internships in state government to leadership roles with the Business Council of Alabama and Shipt, with each step preparing her for the influential work she leads today.
Top Tip: “Trust yourself and take up space. Don’t feel the need to shrink to fit into any room. You’re there for a reason.”
HELPING HAND
Giving back to my community is incredibly important to me, especially because it has given so much to me. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Wildlife Federation, where we focus on the conservation and wise use of our wildlife and natural resources and ensuring a high quality of life for future generations of Alabamians. I also serve on the Saint James School Board of Trustees and stay actively involved with my church, First Baptist Montgomery.
MEANINGFUL MENTORS
Mentorship is another area I care deeply about. I’ve been fortunate to have mentors who invested in me, and I feel a strong responsibility to do the same for others. While working at the Business Council of Alabama, now-Senator Katie Britt shared something that has stayed with me: we have a responsibility to support and elevate other women, just as others have done for us. That perspective continues to shape how I approach mentorship today.
POINT OF PRIDE
My greatest accomplishment is my son. I’m proud of everything I’ve achieved in my career, but my lasting impact is raising a kind, thoughtful person who will make a positive difference in the world. That perspective keeps everything in focus. Professionally, I’m proud of the work I’ve done advocating for Alabama businesses and helping represent their voices in the legislative process. Being able to play a role in making Alabama a great place to live, work and do business is something I take a great deal of pride in.
DEFINING MOMENTS
One of the moments that stands out most was being hired at Shipt, an Alabama-based company, to build and lead their state government affairs program across all 50 states at the age of 32. Losing my mom so early also gave me a deep appreciation for how short and meaningful life is, and it shapes how I choose to live each day. That perspective keeps everything in focus.
INFLUENTIAL FIGURES
My parents have been the most influential people in my life. I got my ambition and drive from my dad, and my late mother taught me lessons that continue to guide me every day: find joy in every moment, leave people better than you found them and truly love your life. Those values shape how I approach my work, how I lead and how I show up for others.
FUTURE-FOCUSED
I truly love what I do. I get to represent a company I believe in while working on issues that matter. If my career has taught me anything, it’s that you never know where the next opportunity might lead, and I’m always open to what that next “yes” might be. Looking ahead, I’m focused on continuing to grow in my role while deepening my impact both professionally and in the communities I care about. I want to keep advancing work that strengthens communities, supports economic growth and creates meaningful opportunities for others.
FULFILLED
The most rewarding part of my work is seeing the real impact it has. I also find a great deal of fulfillment in developing people and supporting their growth. I love recognizing potential in others, sometimes even before they see it in themselves, and helping them build the skills and confidence to achieve their goals. Whether through leadership roles I’ve held in the past or through mentorship today, supporting someone’s growth and playing a role in their success is one of the most meaningful aspects of my work.
